Twenty-six horses perished as a result of a devastating barn fire at Burgundy Hill Farm (also known as Hobby Hill Farm) in Marcy, NY on November 27, 2007. In addition to the lost horses, the barns and all equipment were totally destroyed. The ten surviving horses, temporarily stabled together in Vernon, New York, are doing well.
Three generations of the Kennerknecht/Kreimeyer Family have provided affordable riding for families in the Utica, NY area. The children work at the barn to help pay for their lessons, boarding and horses. They learn riding, horse care, responsibility, and perseverance.
Like many “horse folks” the Kennerknecht/Kreimeyer Family put every dollar into caring for horses. There was always room in the barn for one more elderly or abandoned horse. The high costs of horse care and the family’s generosity took their toll and because of this there was no money left for fire insurance.
Fundraising efforts are now underway to help the Kennerknecht/Kreimeyer Family rebuild the barn and continue their tradition of teaching families to care for and ride horses. The generosity of individuals, organizations, and businesses has been incredible. Donations and kind words of support provide comfort and hope to Michele, Arlene, the riders and their families.
If you would like to contibute to the fire relief fund to help Michele and Arlene rebuild the barn, you may donate online with your Credit Card or Paypal account, or send donations to:
